Coming Soon – “Roy” on CBBC
The BBC have commissioned a new series called Roy, about an 11 year old boy who is normal in every way. Apart from the fact that he is animated!
Combining live action with animation, Roy is a 13-part series filmed as a fly-on-the-wall documentary. It will show how Roy struggles to fit in with the rest of the world as he grows up on a normal housing estate in Dublin.
Apart from the obvious difference in appearances, Roy also possesses the traits of many cartoon characters: for example, he stretches when pulled, turns green when jealous and birds appear when he bangs his head!
Due to air in Autumn 2009, Roy sounds like a unique and original program which has the potential to tackle serious issues, such as discrimination and cultural differences, while also being lots of fun.
Roy is being produced by JAM Media, who also produce the popular Nick Jr show, PicMe.

I saw this programme this morning while I was switching from BBC1 to ITV. Absolute quality programme – I had to leave halfway through to go to work (yes, I’m THAT old)but it is very very funny. Why is it that the funniest kids programmes have an Irish conenction (eg Jakers, and now this).
