Although Charlie and Lola has been a staple on CBeebies since 2005, it has only become a favourite in our house since the beginning of the year as our son got older. It is easy to see how Lauren Child’s characters have become so popular – her realistic and humourous stories often strike a chord with adults as well as children.

I’m sure many parents love the CBeebies’ Bedtime Hour.  For 60 minutes, between 6pm and 7pm, the programming changes as bedtime approaches.  At the moment, the schedule consists of In The Night Garden, followed by 64 Zoo Lane, then Charlie & Lola, topped off with a Bedtime Story.  As from Monday 7th September that’s all changing…

The BBC have recommissioned Kindle Entertainment to produce a new series of Big & Small, the CBeebies puppet show. Comedian Lenny Henry will return as the voice of Big and Small.  No news yet as to when the new series will be shown.

The popular CBeebies series, is returning for a new series.  Produced by London-based Ludorum, 26 episodes of the 10-minute have been commissioned.  No details yet as to the transmission date for it’s return but we will post details as soon as we know.

The BBC announced a new commission for CBeebies this week, called ZingZillas.  The music show aims to mix all types of music, from opera to pop music, with physical activities, but with a prehistoric slant.  A ZingZilla is defined as:

Scheduled to start on CBeebies in March 2010, Garth and Bev is a new animated series set in the Bronze Age.  It follows the adventures of Garth, his sister Bev and their magical grandfather Lir.  By using Lir’s magical druid powers, Garth and Bev travel through time and meet amazing characters throughout history.

Does your child love In The Night Garden?  Does your son or daughter love building blocks? Well, here’s some good news!
BBC Worldwide has forged a deal with Mega Brands, which owns the  Mega Bloks brand, to create playsets based on In the Night Garden.  That’s right – Igglepiggle and Makka Pakke will be recreated in all their blocky glory!  Expect to see the new sets in the shops in time for Christmas 2009.

Starting this Monday (9th Feb) a run of new In The Night Garden episodes will be shown on CBeebies and, for the first time, on the BBC HD channel.
Continuing as a staple of the CBeebies Bedtime Hour, 20 brand new episodes will be broadcast simultaneously on both channels at 6pm.  So now you can watch Igglepiggle, Upsy Daisy, Makka Pakka and the rest of the Night Garden residents even clearer than before!

You may have noticed that since Monday, Chris Jarvis and Pui Fan Lee have been notably absent from CBeebies. Instead two new faces have been presenting Discover & Do and The Bedtime Hour to allow Chris and Pui time to make their new show, Show Me Show Me, which airs later this year.
Alex Winters, a 32-year-old trained actor, has previously appeared as a supporting artist in Torchwood and Doctor Who, as well as several theatre projects.  Interesting fact: he also works as a picture framer!
