Activities include:
Furry Thing – Combine different body parts and create new and familiar furry things.
Painting – Help Wallace paint amazing and colourful pictures.
Tidy Up – Help Humf clean his room by matching the toys to their correctly coloured boxes.
Shadows – Different shapes cast different shadows. Children can try and match them correctly.
Balloons – Help Loon fill the balloons with air, count them then have fun popping them with Humf.
Dot-To-Dot – Join the dots to reveal different characters from the TV show.
Music – Children can have fun making music with different instruments.
Bath Time – Use the water pistol to shoot bubbles at the toys.
Racing – Control the car by tilting the device in different directions.

This is the second year of the new national dance award initiative for young performers across the UK in a search to find the ultimate young budding ballerina, heroic hip-hop dancer or sassy salsa performer.

Entry to The Angelina Ballerina Children’s Dance Award is now open and offers young performers who are under 10 (and must be under 10 on 31st December 2010) the chance to fulfil their dancing dreams and spend a day with English National Ballet.

To enter, young dancers will need to send in an audition tape showing their individual enjoyment of dance, enthusiasm, confidence in performance technique and style, and understanding of their music chosen. Full details can be found at www.angelinaballerina.com/danceaward

Once the competition closes fifteen short-listed entrants from across the country will be invited to audition live in front of an expert panel in the studios of English National Ballet. Similarly to last year, the national award will be judged by a panel of experts from within the dance community. The overall winner of the Angelina Ballerina Children’s Dance Award will be announced early next year. The winner will also get the chance to spend a day rehearsing with the prestigious English National Ballet dancers.

Welcome to the My Kids TV Advent Calendar 2009. Behind the first door is a video unleashed on the world only a week or so ago, but has become an instant classic because of the sheer number of Kids TV icons that appear in it. I am, of course, talking about the Children In Need 2009 Medley.

Mastermind by Peter Kay, the four-and-a-half-minute video features over 100 animated children’s television characters from both sides of the Atlantic. Big Chris (voiced by Kay) from Roary The Racing Car leads the singing and the medley features a total of seven songs:

The cover of the single (pictured above) is a parody of The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album cover, featuring the stars of the video. The single only reached no 18 in the first week of release (most people were initially just downloading the video), but it reached number one on Sunday. If you would like to buy the single (another great stocking filler) it’s available on DVD for £3.98 from Amazon (with free delivery). Each sales means another donation to Children In Need.

Yo Gabba Gabba has always been rather unique because of it’s style and characters, but most of all for the outstanding songs each episode has. From the classic Party In My Tummy, to the melancholic Don’t Be Afraid, they’re all catchy and very kid-friendly. The series also has some outstanding collaborations, including The Ting Tings, Jimmy Eat World and Sugarland.

It’s hard to describe the charm of Yo Gabba Gabba. Possibly tailored to appeal to my generation, with it’s mix of 80s artwork and electronic/hip-hop songs, it is strangely hypnotising.  Plus the kids love it!

The five friends are all back; Muno the red cyclops, Foofa the pink flower bubble, Brobee the little green one, Toodee the blue cat-dragon and Plex the robot. Ever-guided by DJ Lance Rock, the gang explore themes in the 20-part second series like Games, Weather and Animals.

The series kicks off on Monday at 7:30am on Nick Jr, with repeats on the same channel at 2:30pm and then on Nick Jr 2 at 5:30pm. Monday’s episode will see them celebrating Brobee’s birthday:

It’s Brobee’s birthday but he is sad because he thinks everyone has forgotten about it, so he reflects on his past birthdays with DJ Lance. But then Brobee is surprised by a big party in his honour with all his friends in attendance. He counts the candles and finds out how old he is when the gang sings the “How Old Are You?” song. Then special guest Melora Hardin (The Office US) leads everyone in a Conga line. Just before the episode ends The Ting Tings perform the Altered Images classic “Happy Birthday”.

The series is being shows in two halves. The first ten episodes will be aired from this Monday (15th June). The last ten episodes are due to be scheduled later this year.

A number of Yo Gabba Gabba toys are now available since the show became popular in the UK. There is no news of a UK DVD release yet.
