Bagpuss Creator Passes Away

BagpussThe news broke this morning that Oliver Postgate, creator of many classic childrens TV shows, has passed away at the age of 83.  Postgate was responsible for, among others, Bagpuss, The Clangers, Ivor the Engine and Noggin the Nog.  Some of these shows are still repeated regularly today, and Bagpuss has recently seen a revival, leading to a range of merchandise, from stationary and clothing to bedding and toys.

Amazingly, only 13 episodes of Bagpuss were ever made back in 1974, and are available on DVD – Amazon currently has the complete series of Bagpuss on DVD for only £2.98! For those of you who have memories worse than a “saggy old, baggy old cloth cat”, here’s the opening credits:
